Sleeplessness…causes and prevention

Sleep is a very important activity of human body.It plays a very chief role in human metabolism.Sleeplessness means not able to fall asleep easily or not able to keep sleeping all night properly.Sleeplessness also termed as insomnia produces restlessness and keeps you tired all day .It affects your whole day routine too so we will focus on the factors which cause sleeplessness and later the methods and tips to get rid of it.

CAUSES

Stress:

Stress is one of the factors that causes sleeplessness. Stress due to workload ,some traumatic situation like divorce,death or illness of some close relative may contribute to affect sleep activity. Due to stress, the mind keeps thinking and don’t tend to rest so affecting sleep.

Sleeping schedule:

Irregular sleeping schedules,poor sleeping habits,taking naps throughout the day all tend to affect your sleep.If you go to sleep and wake up at different timings daily then you can’t sleep properly.If due to work load ,night shifts , traveling or due to other reasons,you are delaying your sleep time then you can’t have proper sleep cycles .So maintaining a regular sleep schedule is important to have a sound sleep .

Eating or drinking before bedtime:

If you eat heavily before bedtime,it’s difficult for you to sleep ;you feel something heavy is there in your stomach that prevents your sleep. Similarly drinking a lot of water makes you feel the same and you have to have frequent visits to the washroom so don’t drink or eat too much before going to bed.

Taking caffeine, nicotine etc:

Taking caffeinated drinks like tea,cola and coffee later in the day may affect your sleep at night.Taking tobacco and alcohol can also influence your sleep so avoid these things later in the evening to have a sound sleep.Additionally many medications like antidepressants,allergy and cold medicines also contain caffeine that may interfere your sleep.

PREVENTION

Adopting some habits can help you have a good sleep and can help preventing insomnia which are as under;

Go to bed and wakeup at fixed timings daily.

Avoid tea,coffee,cola , nicotine, alcohol later in the evening.

Check medications and ask doctor if they are interfering with your sleep .

Take exercise daily or keep yourself active throughout the day .

Avoid taking naps throughout the day.

Take shower before going to bed

Avoid pets or noisy things in the bedroom.

Maintain a peaceful atmosphere for sleep.Turn off all the lights. Use soft mattress for sleep.

Avoid tv ,work or mobile at night .

These are some of the tips which will help you have a peaceful and sound sleep throughout the night.
